A: Hi, and welcome to another episode of Got My Head Shaved, your podcast for all things 90s and Britpop, hosted by me Andy Powell. My guest today is the legendary Mark Easter who with his partner Gary ‘Buzz’ Busby was one half of British electro-pop duo Neutron Buzz who had success in the late 90s with hits like Saturn Lights, Days of Catherine Wheels and the smash-hit Nothingness which was only kept off the UK No 1 spot by The KLF.

"Nothingness" – Neutron Buzz approx. 30 seconds

A: Hi Mark, welcome to the pod.
M: Feels strange, to be honest, been a while since I've thought about those times...
A: Really looking forward to talking about the hugely influential impact that Neutron Buzz made on British 90s music... or The Buzz as everyone used to call you…
M: I always hated that...
A: What, that you were known as The Buzz?
M: It gave the impression it was all about him, you know…
A: Buzz Busby?
M: Yeah, that he was the group when... it was as much my project as his... but that bloody name... he came up with it of course.
A: The fans, we knew you were the genius behind the music, everyone loved the Marquistador... I mean, you gave Buzz co-writing credit but the songwriting was all you wasn't it?
M: Kind of you to say so Andy, but not quite. Yeah, I created the sound, you know, the atmospheric stuff and the overall vibe, that was all me, hours in the studio... all night into the morning... while Buzz was off his head in some club somewhere. But to be fair, the one thing I had trouble with was inspiration, coming up with the big idea... that was his forte. He'd disappear for days then barge in like some excitable puppy going on about something he'd read or some wise old bloke with mystical qualities he'd met and before you knew it, we had the makings of a new song... with me adapting sounds I already had to fit his weird lyrics... you know... Do the Voodoo or whatever...
